Getting it right Sir: A story appeared in a recent

issue of Your periodical saying that there were conflicting explanations as to the reasons for Mr Robert Shaw not being in Miss Production of Brief Encounter with miss Sophia Loren. There no conflicting reasons whatsoever. Mr Shaw was under contract with Universal Pictures for their production Of Jaws, but due to the fact that this Picture is largely being shot at sea and therefore heavily dependent on the Prevailing weather conditions, the film schedule was extended from its original four weeks to sixteen weeks and indeed, Mr Shaw is still as of this date currently Working on the film. Your article implies that he has a choice in this matter. He has no choice he is under contract and the contract can be extended at the

option of Universal Pictures, an option which they obviously exercised. Mr Shaw would like me to add that he has only just read your article and has in fact never met Sophia Loren. There can therefore be no question of personal antipathy. I think to set the records straight. these facts should be printed as sbon as

possible. John French
