Media boredom

It is a relief to know that the television networks will be moderating somewhat their coverage of the coming election; the word has obviously got to them at last. British people are quite able to consider the issues in a campaign without a plethora of talking heads telling us what to think, and if we already do, why we think it. There is nothing more ignoble than the spectacle of a man talking for talking's sake, but this is not a lesson that our psephologists and 'anchor-men' have easily learnt. There is sPeculation, by the by, about the possible replacement of Alastair Burnet as anchor-man for the BBC election night, now that he has taken on the presumably demanding editorship of theDatly Express. Suggestions have invariably concentrated upon Peter Jay, brilliant young economics editor of the Times. We shall see.
