Jenkins's cant — Sir: Thank you for your perceptive leader

on Mr Jenkins's cant (April 13). May I add a footnote? On the day his nauseating spiel was reverently recorded in the Times, a modest paragraph noted the publication of a new volume of Common Market regulations and stated that " the new volume will attempt to bring MPs up to date but — assuming the European Communities Bill is passed by Parliament at the end of the year — there is still the probability that MPs will be approving some laws they will never have examined."

In face of the words 1 have italicised, is it not the height of cant for any pro-Market MP to pretend that he cares a hoot for Parliament or for the British Constitution?
