Sir: Why is the end of the world virtually an

unmentionable subject? Perhaps it is, in part, because so many, over several cen- turies, have got it wrong. Mather reason for the taboo is, without doubt, the popular view that all prophecies about the end of the world are full of gloom and doom.

The Bible book which is, above all else, a book of prophecy is the Revelation, also known as the Apocalypse, written by John the Apostle. It clearly predicts the end of the world, and the making of 'a New Heav- en and a New Earth', when 'God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes'.

Yes, the future is full of hope, not of gloom; full of joy, not of sorrow. The end of the world should be a topic to cause uplift. It should not be a taboo. Could it happen by the year 2000?
