Fuel economies

Sir: Along with much inconvenience and some real hardship, the enforced fuel economies have brought at least one benefit. It is now possible to shop in comfort, The absurd over-heating of London stores has long been proverbial, and during the last decade or so, presumably as a result of takeovers, this nuisance has been extended into the provinces. Before the recent cuts, it had become difficult to find a store of any size which one could enter without immediately breaking into a sweat, developing a headache or feeling faint.

Need there ever be a return to this expensive method of imposing suffering upon shoppers? No one wants stores to be chilly, but the degree of, comfortable warmth normally obtaining in small shops is greatly preferred to the oven-like conditions which have come to be associated with big stores.
