The long deferred settlement in the special group of shares known as the Hatry Group has gone through during the past week quite successfully, and thanks to the careful arrange- ments made in advance and the " pool " provided by interests directly affected and contributed to by those not affected, no failures have taken place. Nevertheless, and while it is, of course, a satisfactory point that, the Hatry settlement should be out of the way, it must not be forgotten that the matter has involved Stock Exchange losses of not far from £1,000,000, and while during times of prosperity a recovery after such losses may come quickly, it is rather different when conditions generally are those of dullness and depression.
