SIR,—In your issue of February 8th, Mr. Geoffrey Cooper, M.P.,

starts with the following statement: " Will public ownership succeed where private enterprise has failed in the coal, iron and steel, road and rail and air transport, gas and electricity undertakings? " This statement refers to seven industries. In all cases the statement is untrue. All these industries are more successful in the service they render and the price they charge than the nationalised telegraph and telephone services. That being so, the rest of the article does not matter.—Yours faithfully, 145 Abbey House, Victoria Street, HERBERT G. W:LLIAMS.
