MINISTERS' EMPLOYERS

do not know by what authority " Janus " asserts that " Congre- gational and Baptist ministers are the servants of their individual con- gregations," but I can assure him that he is wrong. For the purposes of the National Insurance Bill it may be convenient to accept his ruling, but ecclesiastically the position is clear. Congregational and Baptist ministers are the servants of Christ and of the Catholic Church exercising their ministry in particular spheres. Whatever the law of the country may say, this will continue to be the view not only of the ministers but of all properly instructed congregations.—Yours sincerely,

FRANK H. BALLARD,

Moderator-elect, National Free Church Federal Council. The Manse, Central Square, N.W. rr.
