The division gave a majority of 25 against Government-155 to

130,—but it is stated that among "the Peers of the realm" Government gained a positive majority of one (146 to 145, in- cluding pairs), and were defeated only by the representative Scotch and Irish Peers, who, having been virtually nominated by the Tory leaders, were almost unanimous in their opposition,--29 of them voting for the Duke of Richmond, and only 3 for Govern- ment, these numbers also of course including pairs.
