On the Western Front at the end of last week

the German thrust towards Compiegne and on the line of the Aisne and the Ourcq was still held up. The Americans completed their work in the Belleau Wood, taking thirty prisoners. On Friday week the Germans made

up their claim of guns captured by the Crown Prince since May 27th to one thousand and fifty. In a night attack, reported on Monday, Suffolks and Gordons, with other units, captured the enemy's forward positions, north of Bethune, on a front of two miles, and took one hundred and ninety-six prisoners. West of the thee and south of the Aisne the enemy was then at a complete standstill. On Monday all was quiet but for minor and successful French operations near Hautcbraye, where three hundred and seventy prisoners were taken, and south of Ambleny, near Soirsons, where about a hundred were brought in. During the past week British airmen have been active and successful, destroying twenty-five enemy aeroplanes on June 17th, besides bombing dumps and stations.
