Conservative policies

From J. Biggs-Davison, MP Sir: An element of the Conservative Party which does not, to quote Mr S. J. Lawson's letter, (June 8) consider, "free enterprise and social responsibility as being somehow incompatible" is the Monday Club.

Thus, from its policy document, Right Reason, published on the eve of the General Election: "We stand for capitalism with a human face ... true to the Tory ethic and tradition, we desire a capitalism that provides for participation in decisions by workers at all levels and for wider ownership and shareholding. The 'liquidation of the proletariat' is a proper Tory aim. Labour should enjoy status within industry."
