OPPORTUNITY

for thinkers:

The first examination offering the certificate in General Thinking Skills (GTS) will be held on 19th June.

The examination is open to anyone. There is no set syllabus and no formal knowledge preparation is required. The examination will consist of a two and a half hour paper with answers required in note form.

Opportunity Our experience has suggested that many people who are not particularly good at the knowledge absorbing skills required for academic success may yet be effective thinkers. Absorbing skills and operating skills do not necessarily go together.

The GTS examination is designed as an opportunity for : 1. Those who feel that their abilities are not adequately indicated by their academic attainments.

2. Those who wish to demonstrate that their academic success is matched by more practical thinking skills.

Levels The examination may be taken at three levels: GTS—JUNIOR : intended for the 10-12 age group with an emphasis on creativity, imagination, constructive thinking and breadth of perception. GTS—BASIC: for older pupils or adults— The emphasis is on robust practical thinking rather than accumulated knowledge or logical games. GTS—ADVANCED : for those who feel that their general thinking skills are above average and who seek recognition of this. The emphasis is on competence and decisiveness rather than discursiveness.

Full details and entry forms may be obtained from The Secretary (GTS), The Cognitive Research Trust, 11 Warkworth Street. Cambridge.
