LINKS WITH THE PAST.

SIR,—Bisbop Mylne, in his letter to you under the above heading, cites the case of a lady, lately deceased in her hundredth year, whose grandmother was born in 1750, "five years or so after the battle of Prestonpans." I am only in my eighty-third year, and my grandfather was born in 1738, seven years or so before the battle of Prestonpans. In the year 1835 I saw and spoke to the old gentleman, who died in the following year at the age of ninety-eight.—I am, Sir, &c., W. M. L.
