THE 146 respondents were drawn from the City, business and industry, the trade unions, press and television, the universities, the law, medicine, the arts, the clergy, the Civil Service and the Houses of Parliament. Of these, 51 per cent said they normally supported the Conservative Party, 22 per cent the Labour Party and 18 per cent the Alliance parties. Four per cent sup- ported other parties and 28 per cent either declined to say which party they supported or said they supported none. Twenty-seven per cent of the sample were under 45 years old; 97 per cent of those polled were male. The poll was conducted by the Harris Research Cen- tre between 20 and 27 October 1986.
