The attempts of the Admiralty to blow up the hull

of the 4 Forest,' which is floating about the Channel, and a cause of serious danger, first by shell, and then by torpedoes, do not say much for their expertness in using their tools. For two suc- cessive days, they produced no effect, except that of sending up great columns of water into the air; and if the hull of the 'Forest' had been an enemy's ship, it is even doubtful whether it would have been wholly disabled by these carefully-projected and long- continued efforts.
