The unemployment figures published on September 10th showed a welcome

'decrease of 24,675 as compared with the week before. The total number of unemployed, however, was 1,300,000. or 247,449 more than the year before. Last week's fall is the first recorded since the end of July. It is .sincerely to be hoped that the appreciable deerease. of unemployment last spring will be repeated in the autumn and winter. The lowest unemployment figure this year was 1,083,845 on March 26th. There are fresh signs of a stirring in trade, which extend even to some Of the.heavy industries. The latest annual Report from the Port of London is good On the Whole, but it mustbe remembered that it takes us Up only to March 81st An this year.
