Parents must often wish that the work of modern psycho-

logists was made open for them in a common-sense and compre- hensible manner. In Dr. Estelle Cole's Three Minute Talks About Children (Daniel Company, 8s. (id.), a qualified and competent practitioner with a store of technical knowledge is writing in clearest and simplest terms. Her essays were written for the popular Press ; they remind us much more of an old nurse's wisdom than of a doctor's terrifying formality. There are articles on The Difficult Child," "The Inquisitive Child," and "The Child who is Too Good " ; on toys, pets, and games, on punishments and rewards. A good deal of science is quietly cony:eyed in these interesting chapters.
