Weller well

Sir: Whilst agreeing with Rodney Milnes's comments (Opera, 8 September) on the poor lighting and staging of ENO's revival of The Flying Dutchman, I do think his criticism of Walter Weller's conducting totally unjustified. Together with my guests I found Mr Weller's pacing of the score quite exemplary. Indeed, it was Mr Weller's highly musical and thoughtful interpretation that saved the day and I for one look forward to attending many more performances under this highly talented maestro's baton.
