Total Abstinence. By Benjamin Ward Richardson, M.D. (Mao,- millan.)—Dr. Richardson

steadfastly maintains his cause, against

what must be called a great preponderance of professional opinion.

In every way he deserves a hearing; and though ho may not make as many converts as he would wish, he can hardly fail to leave a con- siderable impression by his arguments. The volume before us con- tains five addresses. The first was delivered before the Hunterian Society of London ; the other four were given on behalf of the National Temperance League. Their general subject is, " The Diffi- culties in the Way of Total Abstinence ;" and they deal severally with "difficulties, general and medical," "hereditary and acquired diffi- culties," "physical. difficulties," " mental and social difficulties."
