Air. K and the junta

Sir: In a very interesting article (16 August) Mrs Helen Vlachos refers to the political pros- pects of Mr Karamanlis • and writes: 'His [Karamanlis's] future is linked with the future of.Greece: but with a Greece that is something more than a disguised American colony, useful only for military purposes. The junta is good enough for that role.'

May I congratulate Mrs Vlachos on her can- dour and perspicacity? She is absolutely right. I would like however to point out that Greece has been an American colony in disguise since 1947, when she was chosen as the first guinea- pig, to be subjected to the Truman doctrine.
