Welcome interest

Sir: We welcome the Duchess of York's interest in Parkinson's disease (Diary, 16 August).

After spending a week with a person with Parkinson's, the Duchess has clearly learned at first hand what a difficult, debili- tating and distressing condition this can be. She is right when she says, `To see a man with such a golden spirit willing his tired body forward is, without question, an inspi- ration never to give up the fight for every

moment of life.' The experience clearly moved her; it is one with which we who work for people with Parkinson's can readi- ly identify.
