Stories from Italian History. Retold for Children by G. E.

Troutbeck. (Mills and Boon. 5s. net.)—Miss Troutbeck begins with the invasion of Italy by Attila, and takes occasion to relate something of .the story of Venice. Attila destroyed Aquileia, and the refugees from Aquileia founded Venice. Next we are told about Theodoric the Ostrogoth, followed by " St. Benedict " and the "Story of the Iron Crown." A chapter on the 'Popes and Emperors" dew something to explain the complicated problems of Italian politics. There is a specially interesting chapter on "Some Great Captains,' Sir John Hawkweed being first on the list. The book is well put together and handsomely illustrated.
