A critical periodical has lately been started at Edinburgh, under

the title of Presbyterian Review and Religious Journal. The ob- ject of the work is to give an account of the state of theological literature in the Scottish Church, and we have no doubt that its purposes will be fairly answered. In the first article there are some sensible remarks on the precociousness of youthful scrib- blers, and the vicious habit of beginning to publish too early. The wretched practice of puffing-criticism is also animadverted upon in a manner to demand the attention of a rational public.
