Dr. Addison, Minister without Portfolio, has resigned, and he explained

his reasons in the House of Commons on Thursday, July 14th. He read the letter which he had sent to the Prime Minister. After describing how the Prime Minister had urged him to make " the most rapid progress " with housing, and declaring that so far as was compatible with his instructions he had exercised the utmost economy, Dr. Addison went on to describe Sir Alfred Mond's modification of the housing pro- gramme as an " abandonment " and a " breach of faith." Abandonment of the housing programme, he said, was not true economy, which ought to be sought in other directions— directions which he himself had often indicated.
