SIR,—I have no objection to your correspondent, Miss Paterson, feeling

" immense scorn" for me, but I do object to her statement that I made a satirical reference to the Madonna and Child. There was no satire in my remark that I did not think this symbol relevant to the production of large families; it was a simple statement of fact.—Yours, &c.,
