The Masque at Ludlow, and other Romanesques. By the Author

of Mary- Powell. (Sampson Low).—This is a return to the first loves of the Author of Mary Pozoell, for the Masque at Ludlow is the story of the- writing and first performance of Milton's Cbmus, as Mary Powell was. the story of the first Mrs. Milton. But there is not much in the present book, and mere imitation of an old style is tedious. We home not Professor Masson's Life of Milton at hand, and cannot pretend to, say what foundation there may be for the introduction of Milton him- self as an actor. But BO far as we remember, Milton wrote Comas while- living under his father's roof at Horton; whereas here we have a letter from him to his father during the composition, and his father speaks in his answer of "next time you come home."
