The Australians unquestionably earned their victory in the last of

the Test Matches. At the opening of the season it might have been thought that Australian cricket was in one of its rare declines, but the young men are coming on and they are yet to have their day. The common verdict upon cricket without a time limit is that the game is ruined ; and we are sure that the verdict is just. Unlimited time imposes upon the players the most dreary tactics. Caution is no doubt often a merit, but in cricket, when it eliminates the glorious art of deciding how it is best to act in order to win the game within an allotted time, it is a deadly enemy of the whole spirit of the game.
