CHILDREN'S COUNTRY HOLIDAY FUND

[To' the Editor of the SPECTATOR.] SIR,--On behalf of children to be seen in every "side street playing in gutters and on hard pavements, I appeal to your readers for help for the Children's Country Holidays Fund; whereby these children may be given a fortnight in a country cottage. Those of us who know and value the joys of the countryside and can escape from London some part of every year should spare a thought for the thousands, in cramped' and drab surroundings, for whom such escape is impossible.' Most of us cherish recollections of the myriad joys of fields, lanes and seaside to a child and should like to giVe others a share of what we ourselves have enjoyed. Donations will be. gladly welcomed by the Earl of Arran, 18 'Buckingham Street, Strand.--I am, Sir, &c., FRANCIS MORRIS

' (Chairman of the Fund).
