Sir: While thanking you for your friendly notice of my novel That Summer Long Ago (9 May), may I in the interests of fiction verisimilitude and of historical accuracy point out that had my whale been, as described by you, a killer, the chances are that I should not have been alive today to write my story. He was a bottlenose and as I say (p. 56) was as sair frechted' by the Barton children as they were by him.
