Pleas for Secularization. By Aubrey de Vera. (Longmans.)—The title of

this pamphlet misleads as as to its contents. Instead of pleading for secularization, Mr. Aubrey de Vero re plies to pleas in favour of it, and upholds the "just distribution" of Ireland's religious endowments. Ireland, he says, requires her Church property for strictly religious purposes, for the support of schools and colleges, the building of churches, the creation and maintenance of cathedrals, the purchase of glebes, and the endowment of the clergy. This argument is worked out with much felicity of language, but not always with irreproachable logic, nor is Mr. Aubrey de Yore free from a visionary taint which often weakens his conclusions.
