A narrative of recent events has been published at Turin,

believed to be instigated by Rattazzi. The writer declares that Battazzi tried hard to stop the invasion of the Pontifical States by Volunteers ; that, finding himself unable to stop them, he issued orders assembling an army, which in eight hours would have been in Rome ; that just as the final order was to be given, "a counter-order came from a high place ;" that Napoleon menaced invasion from the north, and that Rattazzi then resigned, indicat- ing Cialdini as his successor. When Cialdini failed, Rattazzi was again sent for, and again demanded the same condition, instant march on Rome, which was refused. We know the rest.
