SETTLEMENT IN EAST AFRICA.

[To THE Fa5rroa OF THE " Sezereroft."3 SIL—Having served for three years over the greater part ef British, and German East Africa, I had a favourable opportunity of studying the country. I can safely say that for fertility and cheapness of the soil, for low cost of labour, and for climate in the Highlands it cannot be surpassed. Coffee in four years gives a profit of 100 per cent. Flax gives a handsome return in six months. I suggest for a settler a capital of not less than .2500, and Government land east of Mount Elgon.
