We have received from Messrs. Gilbert, Wood, and Co., publishers

in this country of the French journal L'Art, a folio volume, Les Styles, Notices par Paul Ronaix. It contains seven hundred engravings illustrative of architectural and ornamental work, chronologically arranged. The earlier periods are hastily passed over ; Greek art being represented by two engravings, and as many-pages of letter- press. Roman and Greco-Roman art is dealt with more fully, and some attention is paid to Gothic) art. The larger part of this volume is devoted to the various French styles, from Louis XII. to the Empire. It concludes with a few interesting specimens of Oriental work. The main value of the work consists in its full treatment of national art.
