The Rosebud Annual, 1898. (James Clarke and Co.)—The pictures are,

as usual, very good. The verse might be better. Even the quite young children for whom the Annual is intended know the difference between good and bad.

We have received from Messrs. Service and Paton new editions of Hypatia, by Charles Kingsley ; and in the series of "The English Illustrated Library" Sir Walter Scott's Old Mortality, with sixteen illustrations by Sidney Paget, and The Pirate, similarly illustrated by C. J. Sullivan.
