I cared about was that his travel on our subsidised roads should not be paid for out of my taxes. In actual fact, however, I also care about the provision of transport facilities for other people—especially the very old and the very young, and the infirm, who cannot travel long distances by bus. This is a matter which, I feel, should be of some concern to a com- munity which regards itself as civilised. After all, where are we going to stop? Does Mr. Taylor wish us now to stop subsidising postal, electricity and ether similar social services to remote areas just because he personally receives no immediate benefit? P. D.
