LOST WEEKENDS

SIR,—As one of your overseas subscribers, I am worried by your vestigial venture into cover colour. Keep it pure black (and white)!

Like Mr. Donovan (your columns, October 9) I too am catholic in my reading; I take, inter alio, the Observer (on a bookstall basis). That the Sunday Times reader gets his bulky matter, including Colour supplement here, air mail for the same price as I get a supplement-less Observer weighing about half as much is a source of intense annoyance to me, but also reluctant admiration for the far more economically myopic Lord Thomson.

[Colour has been used on the cover of the Spectator for eleven years. What appears inside the paper will remain black and white and (we hope) pure.—Editor, Spectator.]
