Mr. Fremantle, the Conservative candidate, has succeeded in Bucldnghamshire, though

the contest has been a very close one, —Mr. Fremantle gaining 2,725 votes against 2,539 given for Mr. Carington, and having won, therefore, by a majority of 186. At the last 'ebntest, 'Mr. Disraeli got 3,004 votes, and Sir R. athvey 2,902, the Liberal candidate, Mr. Lambert, only obtained 1,720 votes. The Conservatives, therefore, have lost ground, and the Liberals immensely gained ground ; but the Tory Government will have the moral advantage of the victory, all the same. 'It is the broad visible effect only by'which Governments Ohl or •lode at a critical moment.
