SIR,—Miss Arnot Robertson is surely pulling our legs in her

delightful article when she claims that Robert Louis Stevenson put on record this confession : 'I have endeavoured all my life to like Scotsmen, but have been forced to desist from the experiment in despair.'

This bears so close a resemblance to Charles Lamb's cry from the heart, 'I have been trying all my life to like Scotchmen and am obliged to desist from the experiment in despair,' that I am sure Stevenson would never have risked a charge of plagiarism.—Yours faithfully, Thle Yorkshire Post
