In Oban Town. By C. McKellar. (Alexander Gardner.)—This is a

story of Highland life. There is description of scenery in it; there is sport ; there is a selection of poetry, in which the author seems to have a good taste ; and, of course, there is love, and in large quantity. Generally, one might say, it is in quantity that we find the defect, or rather the excess, of the book. The interest is overweighted by it. On the other hand, the story has merit, something of style and of drawing of character, and everything is quite wholesome.
