Polling took place in East Edinburgh on Friday week, the

result being as follows :—Mr. J. P. Gibson (L.) 4,527; Mr. P. J. Ford (U.) 4,069; Liberal majority, 458. At the seven elections held in the last twenty-five years the Liberal majority, if we except 1895, when it fell to 449, averaged nearly 2,000. Compared with 1906, when that majority reached 4,174, the decrease in the Liberal vote is 2,079, while the increase in the Unionist vote is 1,637.
