In a second edition, the Morning Herald gives the following

intelli- gence as received by the French Government yesterday-

"' Alexandria, 7th August.—The Viceroy has abandoned his previous reso- lution to abdicate, nor will he persist in his intention of making the pilgrimage to Mecca. His return to Alexandria from Cairo is expected every moment.' " News from Marshal Bugeaud of the 14th has been received. The Marshal, wishing to prevent the junction and augmentation of the Morocco army, which every day received additional reinforcements, marched forwards from his camp. The Maroquins stood upon the defensive, with a mass of cavalry of about 20,000 men. It appears that the Marshal has gained a complete victory, but par- ticulars are not yet known.
