M.A. (Deighton and Bell.)—As Mr. Munro states in his admirable commentary on this poem, he was led to undertake the work of transcribing and
editing it by the discovery of an excellent manuscript of it in the public Library at Cambridge. Scholars of all nations will be grateful to him for what he has done, and for the manor in which ho has done it. The poem itself was formerly attributed to Virgil, but this theory of its authorship has long since been shaken, and is not even discussed by Mr. Munro. Nothing, however, ctin be more masterly than his criticism on the poem, and the expression of his reason for assigning it to Lucilius, the friend and correspondent of Seneca. Perhaps conservative Latinists will find difficulty in following the spelling adopted, and will gnash their teeth at the substitution of u for v, in all but two instances. But we must leave them to fight their own battles.
