Labour directions

From John Lee, MP Sir: The sentiments expressed by the anonymous writer in your issues of July 27 and August 3 are, sadly, not unfamiliar.

Articulate reformists in the Labour Party, who are piqued at the

fact that the Party is belatedly becoming Socialist, are not uncommon, as the events in Lincoln and Woolwich have shown, One matter upon which the author need have no fear: there is no need for anonymity.

The left has never sought to drive others out of the Party. What a difference from the situation years ago, e.g. Nye Bevan, Stafford Cripps and, more recently, the withdrawal of the Whip from various nuclear disarmers. I suggest he should at least have the guts and the decency to disclose his identity.
