A Dictionary of Ecclesiastical Terms. By John S. Bumpus. (T.

Werner Laurie. 21s. net.)—We may quote the sub-title, which, defining the meaning of the word "terms," sets forth the purpose of the book. They are words and phrases "used in Architecture, Ecclesiology, Liturgiology, Music, Ritual, Cathedral Constitution, etc." It should be said that the Roman and the Greek uses are dealt with as well as the Anglican. Mr. Bumpus's standpoint is not exactly the same as ours ; but we recognise the value of his bo)k. Might it not have been well to give a brief account of what " dedication " means ? We find here nothing but a reference to some book on the subject. Could the ordinary layman, or even cleric, explain in what sense one church is dedicated to the Holy Trinity and another to St. Mary ?
