Aubrey Singer

Sir: Whilst not wishing to deny Geoffrey. Wheatcroft the freedom to express his opinionated view of the BBC (Notebook, 17 December) I feel he might do his readers the courtesy of checking his facts. Aubrey Singer has come to BBC Radio from BBC TV where he has, for the past three years, been Controller of BBC 2. He has never before been involved with radio.

Incidentally Wheatcroft's views are singularly odd. Were Radio 2 the only BBC Radio channel then the criticisms might have some substance. The BBC Radio output (four major channels; local radio; the World Service, et al) must be taken together and, as such, it is universally admired.
