Practical Lessons on Insect Life. By T. Wood. (J. Hughes.)—

An interesting and attractive volume, illustrated by a number of woodcuts, and containing much useful information concerning the life-history and habits of many of our insect friends and foes. Had the author consulted Miss Ormerod's works more frequently, his pages would have represented more fully the present state of our knowledge of popular entomology,—something more useful, for instance, might have been said concerning the crane-fly (p. 165) and the weevil (p. 62). The absence of an index is to be regretted.
