THE KING'S OWN SCOTTISH BORDERERS. [To THE EDITOR OF TER

"SPECTATOR.") SLR,—May I- point out that in a notice of seven war books in the Spectator of July 10th, p. 49, your reviewer attributes to the Border Regiment the account in the fifth book on his list of the war record of the 7/8th Battalion of the King's Own Scot- tish Borderers? The Border Regiment (old 34th and 55th Foot, Depot, Carlisle) and the King's Own Scottish Borderers (old 25th Foot, Depot, Berwick-on-Tweed) are two entirely distinct regiments, and it is to a battalion of the latter that the book in question relates.—I am, Sir, &c., W. CONRAN SMITH. United Free Church Manse, Forgue, Huntly.
