and no arrests were made. As we have pointed out in a leading article, the murder was the sequel to a false report about the nature of an order issued by Colonel Smyth to the members of

his force. In the House of Commons, on Wednesday, Sir Ilamar Greenwood quoted the text of the order. Colonel Smyth stated that a policeman was perfectly justified in shooting any man who was seen with arms and who did not immediately hold up his hands when ordered to do so.
