Repeal this Act

Sir: Although we are aware that the Race Relations Bill was introduced to protect the immigrant population, it should surely cover the indigenous people also. Mr Harold Soref, MP, asked the Home Secretary to prosecute the London West Indian Conference for promising cash assistance exclusively for coloured candidates in London borough elections. In reply Mr Richard Sharpies said that criminal prosecutions under the Act are for incitement to racial hatred.

A landlord may be prosecuted for barring coloured tenants, or a 4property company for refusing to sell to coloured purchasers, but it is in order for the West Indian Standing Conference to display racial prejudice against white candidates in local elections.

Double standards are so blatant in race relations that a wise government would repeal this futile and much abused Act of Parliament.
