JULIETTE'S WEEKLY FROLIC

For its twenty-first birthday present next year, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes gets a massive £30,000 boost from De Beers and in the same week Benson and Hedges offer Sandown Park £8,000 for a two-year-old Nursery. Unparalled generosity but while the former race can be relied upon to provide a really top-class field even without this' added incentive, it is to be hoped that B & H get a better response than Timeform did at Doncaster last Saturday. The King George once more presents the ticklish problem of an impossibly priced Mill Reef, but as a change from my foolish, outright opposition I shall compromise with .a place only at 12 to 1 on the french four-year-old, Stintino. Strictly on running behind Caro he has nearly seven lengths to make up on Mill Reef, but this obstinate animal hasn't revealed his true capabilities this season and just supposing he felt so inclined this weekend, could further the four-year-olds superior record in this race. On a lower note Friday's Cranbourn Chase Stakes looks the ideal opportunity for the irascible Selhurst. Following a promising third last September in the "Royal Lodge," he has steadily torn his reputation to shreds. However, after a petulant exhibition in Ascot's paddock on Gold Cup day, he surprisingly ran Nijinsky Stakes scorer, Seafriend, to a length and on this brighter note can outclass the maidens he meets now. Up in the North-West the Wills Silver Goblets Handicap has attracted a notable field to Ayr on Saturday. Remraf, who scored his third 1971 success on Tuesday and Magnet Cup third, Scotia's Girl look the biggest dangers to the Hunt Cup's antepost favourite, and subsequent runner-up, Londesborough Boy. He had both these rivals behind when winning the " UsherVaux ' over this course in May and although Remraf is 41b better off for as many lengths, my selection should confirm the form.
